Carla Estherhuizen's Birth Story 02

Carla Estherhuizen’s Birth Story

“For I know the plans I have for you,” declares the Lord, “plans to prosper you and not to harm you, plans to give you hope and a future.” Jeremiah 29:11

Sr Kathleen was placed on our path by God for a reason. At 36 weeks pregnant our birth plan had to change, and we had to find out if it was possible to have the birth at her Mother and baby clinic.

They were definitely Angels sent for a reason. From the moment that we met them for our first appointment. They made us feel so welcome and relaxed, we felt at home.

Both Sr Kathleen and Sr Oxana took great care of us. During our weekly visits from 37 weeks on.

The last few weeks wanting on our baby girl felt like forever.

The day she was born started like any other. Since this was my second birth, I knew how contractions felt so I waited patiently for them but nothing. And so at 39 weeks and 5 days we had a prenatal appointment at 12:30. We arrived and joked with Sr Oxana how we wanted to have the baby today and that our bags were already in the car. Upon examination she discovered I was already between 4-5cm dilated but wasn’t feeling any contractions. We were quickly moved to a room and after about an hour bouncing on birth ball and listening to gospel music. I asked to take a hot bath to help relieve the pain. Lindsay was one amazing doula during this time, as she helped me manage the pain without medication and breathe through every contraction. She also guided my husband what he could do to help.

And then after only a short time I was finally ready to push. They motivated me with every push and made my husband apart of it all. This part was quite intense, and I felt like giving up but luckily my husband, Sr Kathleen and Doula Lindsay were there to help give me strength for that final push. After 15 minutes of pushing our beautiful baby girl was born at 16:02. The moment she was placed on my chest, the whole world stopped, and it was all worth it.

This was one amazing birthing experience and I’m so glad we got to experience it in such a personal and spiritual way.
